Upon hearing about immense amounts of human suffering, our first strong feeling is one of helplessness or powerlessness.  When the earthquake struck Haiti, we were dumbfounded at how difficult it was to get aid to a nation so physically close to ours.  And now, the Chileans are even further away.  But our first great response is prayer.  I have heard it said many times “Never underestimate the power of prayer.”  Nothing is stronger at focusing love and attention on the subject of our prayer; nothing unites us as a human race better.

Our hearts go out to all the communities who are struggling through disasters, natural or man-made.  We work hard at this time to reduce poverty in the United States with the hope that one day poverty and injustice will be eliminated from the entire planet.  We pray.
