The Cycling for Change (C4) campaign was officially kicked-off in St. Louis, MO on January 21, 2010. The event was held at St. Patrick Center and was sponsored by Catholic Charities of the St. Louis Archdiocese. Community members in attendance had the opportunity to meet and hear Fr. Matt Ruhl explain the genesis of the ride and his passion for working to reduce poverty in America. Fr. Matt called on attendees to support the 2006 policy paper from Catholic Charities USA titled “Poverty in America” by becoming active in the St. Louis C4C committee.
Maureen McGlynn, president of the St. Patrick Center Board of Directors also provided attendees with information on the work of the center to support clients facing the many issues related to poverty in the St. Louis area. St. Patrick Center will be the benefactor of funds raised by the local C4C efforts.
Attendees discussed events being planned in the St. Louis area including participation in the St. Patrick Sports Trivia Championship (February 12, 2010), Parish to Parish rides (spring 2010), the Missouri Segment Ride (July 20-24, 2010), and the St. Louis Ride concluding with a mass and volunteer fair on July 25, 2010. Attendees were encouraged to complete Volunteer Forms to identify which areas they would like to participate.
