On August 17, 2010 a group of 15 riders from Kansas City will arrive in Pensacola on a cross country journey from Seattle, WA to Key West, FL to raise awareness on the unacceptable level of poverty in our community and in our country. Their route takes them straight across the panhandle of Florida from Ft. Morgan, AL to Perry, FL. We will continue to add more details and information to the Catholic Charities web-site at www.catholiccharitiesnwfl.org.
Mark Dufva, Executive Director of Catholic Charities has personally committed to joining this ride from Ft. Morgan, AL to Tallahassee, FL (250 miles). A flyer and brochure describing the events and activities beginning in the Pensacola area are available on our web-site at www.catholiccharitiesnwfl.org. Specifically, we invite you to join us and ask you to consider the following: 1) Long Segment rides for bike enthusiast from Ft. Morgan, AL to Tallahassee, FL August 17-21. 2) Short segment rides locally in Pensacola from Perdido Key Bridge 2pm (15 mi) or Bayou Chico Bridge 3pm (3 mi) to Plaza de Luna in downtown Pensacola on the afternoon of August 17. Additional short segment rides may also be created for the Tallahassee segment. 3) Rally and City Proclamation August 17 4pm Plaza de Luna in downtown Pensacola. 4) Dinner with Bridge to Circles Leaders and homeless bikers August 17 5:30pm Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on 12th Ave. in Pensacola 5) Breakfast, blessing and send off August 18, 7am Loaves & Fishes Shelter in Pensacola
In addition, the riders will be stopping in DeFuniak Springs at St. Margaret’s, Chipley at St. Joseph’s, culminating with entry into Tallahassee on the afternoon of Friday August 20. We have scheduled a major Rally on the riders rest day in Tallahassee, in cooperation with FSU, St. Thomas More and local homeless providers.
